Refugees, War, and Hate: Understanding the Intersection of Antisemitism and Refugee Crises
Join us for this exclusive conversation in conjunction with the grand opening of the Holocaust Museum LA’s never-before-seen exhibition, Hidden History: Recounting the Shanghai Jewish Story, which paints the multifaceted story of desperation, refuge, and hope of Jewish refugees in Shanghai before, during, and after WWII.
This private event offers a timely conversation on how we understand and learn from the plight of refugees forced by persecution and violence to abandon their home country and their extraordinary spirit of resilience.
The Museum’s Vice President of Education and Exhibits and co-curator of Hidden History, Jordanna Gessler, will moderate a panel discussion with:
- Congressmen Ted Lieu (CA-33) and Adam Schiff (CA-28) will share their unique perspectives on how the lessons of the past relate to today’s worldwide humanitarian crises.
- Academy Award-winning film producer Mike Medavoy, born in Shanghai, will highlight his family’s story of survival.
- Retail and business mogul George Kolber will share his family’s journey from Vienna to Shanghai to Austria to the U.S.
- Dr. Ann Rothstein Segan will discuss her father Arthur Rothstein’s photographs and experience documenting the Shanghai Jewish community in 1946 for the United Nations.
